The Islamic “holy books” are filled with empty claims stating that Islam is a pure and true religion. For 1400 years, many well-meaning Muslims have dedicated their lives attempting to improve and advance Muhammad’s cult of death and destruction. It is high-time that Muslims take a good hard look at the life of Muhammad and the details of this sick man’s religion of fear and hatred. Since the time of saadia geon and Maimonides jews have made it their business to be sure that our religion is in conformity with reason and logic. and thye same goes for Christians that had a thousand years history of justifying their faith based on Neo platonic models, until about 1200, at the time of Aquinas Christians switched over to Aristotle, But they never stopped justifying Christianity on reason. It is only Islam that refuses that standards of logic and human decency.

I would have to agree that up until the time of Ibn Rushd Averroes that Muslims did see justification of their faith as high priority. This seems to have been under the influence of the teacher of Al Farabi who was Christian. But i would have to say that since that time Islam has changed course to barbarism.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your reply, but such is the tide of faith-based cultures and civilizations; what is counted as "barbarous" today was the epitome of civilization in days of yore, and vice versa...e g the Christian West were the barbarians during the Middle Ages, starting Crusades and stuff against the, then, more advanced Islamic world! To "get out" of their barbarous state, they learned from the Muslims and (to make a long story shorter) with their new (modified and adapted) knowledge they got the upper hand and started to (among other things) colonize the rest of the globe (including the Islamic world) and here we are nowadays in the (late) Post-Colonial Era. I won´t drag on about the temporal state of things anymore, but I will point to some Modern Era (nineteenth century and onwards) thinkers in the Islamic world, some lights in the "barbarous" gloom perhaps, but first; here are some links to a general overview of Islamic philosophy (I suggest you check them out before the more specific links):

My only answer to you is the idea of objective morality.
ReplyDeleteEven if we would take it as a given that Christian Europe was less advanced the Muslim countries i would still have to plead for objective morality. That is that today Christian Europe is objectively more advanced morality and in other ways that Muslim countries. maybe if i have some time i will try to defend objective morality in some essay.
By all means, take your time and write your essay, but you needn´t bother: As far as I am concerned, I think I have made my point in my statements, as have you, and I will content myself with that, for now, and let us both have a break in this (engaging) discussion.
